Following the completion of trials at the Montem Lane Ice Arena the Slough Jets are delighted to announce the three weeks of trials an absolute success. Trials for all age groups have been very well attended, indeed trials for the Slough Jets senior team have been over-subscribed.
Slough Jets Director of Operations Steve English said after the final trials had concluded; “I’m blown away by the support the club have had after a difficult summer with many distractions. It was touch and go for a while whether the club would cease to exist but I’m pleased to say that everything needed for the club to both continue and flourish I’m assured is in place”.
Reflecting on the junior trials English continued; “All age group trials have been well attended and we have re-signing the majority of our players from last season across all ages Under 9 to Under 18. That includes some of the very exciting prospects the club currently has representing the South East Conference, the England teams and GB teams. We’ve also had interest from players who were with other clubs last year, the majority of whom have signed on the dotted line for the 16/17 season. In addition to this I’ve been asked to email registration forms to many other players too.”
With regard to the senior team, the Slough Jets, Steve English said; “Those trials weren’t to get signatures as such but to give the coaching team the chance to see the players wanting to sign and to then decided who to offer places to this season to fit the team dynamics and work within the systems and tactics the Jets will employ in the Southern English National Ice Hockey League”.
In an exciting announcement ahead of the start of the new season the Jets can announce an addition to the coaching team for the senior Jets in the form of former Jets player Joe Ciccarello. “Chico”, as he was known in his playing days, has played the game at the very top level in this country and was part of a successful era in the Jets history. He has all the skills in his locker as well as a great hockey brain which he will use to help develop the players this year and boost hopes in the upcoming competition.
Steve English said of this capture; “As a club we’re really excited to be working with Joe again. It was a sad day when he left the club as a player and finished his playing career elsewhere but the fact he has now returned in a coaching role is something we are all excited about. The entire club coaching team are looking forward to working with Joe and we’re sure the players will benefit greatly from his experience and knowledge of the game.”
The Jets have training ice available to all age groups on Wednesday 27th July and Wednesday 3rd August and anyone still contemplating signing up for the club for 16/17 is more than welcome to attend.
In conclusion Steve English said; “I’m relieved we’ve cleared the hurdles we’ve faced this season, I’m thrilled at the turn out we’ve had at the trials and I think the addition of Joe Ciccarello to our coaching team proves that the club is fully intending on having a successful year built on solid foundations across all age groups.”
